This page is dedicated to
riding tips. Tips that will help us in general
but mainly tips to help keep us upright.
Riding in the city
When filtering always watch the front wheels for people shifting lanes
Don't filter too fast, if you can't honestly stop quickly you're taking your life into your own hands
If you move to the front of the traffic queue, move in front of the first car, they may not like this but they'll know you're there. Smile and wave if you like.
Be aware that by crossing the stopping line you are technically braking the law,
but this is safer. If you can't make it to the front position yourself **behind** cars that may not see you.
Always have a way out. If you are sitting in traffic between vehicles and have no way out get out of there, you always should position yourself so that you can move the bike if you need to.
Riding on Country Roads
Expect a dodgy road surface, mud, gravel, dead animals etc
Ride at a speed you are comfortable with but remember that pushing your riding limits also improves your skills.
If you have hit a corner too fast and you need to brake hard to slow there are a few options. You can straighten the bike briefly, brake then lean
it hard around the corner or you can brake as you're going around the corner, but this is dodgy and you must brake smoothly.
The main thing is to not be going too fast for a corner in the first place.
General Tips
Remember that even if you were 'in the right' it wont make much difference when you're lying on the road with your bike in bits.
Use your horn if you think someone hasn't seen you or even just to check they have (the f*ck you from them afterwards will confirm this), it may seem impolite but you only need one volvo pulling out of a street...
If you have an accident don't move from where you are. Call the police, get witnesses and take photos.
Even if the driver is accepting responsibility, as they often change their minds.
Don't ride if you are tired or unwell. If you have to, take it easy, sit in traffic rather than filtering etc.
When riding in a group, give your mates space, give them a full lane to play with and don't ride in their blind spot,
this is just so bloody annoying!
Always keep a buffer between you and other cars. Basically as much space as possible without sacrificing a good road position.
I good way to get this is to use the bike's speed on take off to get ahead of traffic but make sure the way is clear as people often run the lights!
